Text your assistant with Cypher Dots (private beta)

Quick answer

If Cypher Dots is enabled on your account:

  1. Open Cypher Dots in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Your Dots agent and Dots' phone number.
  3. Connect Google for Calendar, Gmail and Docs.
  4. Enter Your mobile number and select Text me, then reply to the text.

Cypher Dots turns one of your Cypher LM agents into a personal assistant you can text. You send it a message such as "book a call with Daniel Brooks Thursday 4pm" or "any email from the bank?", and it acts for you: it answers your calls, calls people for you, books meetings, handles email and keeps notes in Google Docs. It replies by text message.

Cypher Dots is in private beta. It only appears in the dashboard for accounts that have been invited. If you would like to try it, email support@cypherlm.com and tell us how you plan to use it.

Before you start

  • A deployed agent. Dots uses that agent's voice, language and knowledge and adds its assistant tools on top. If you have none, build one first (see How to build your first agent).
  • A phone number on the agent that can send SMS. Texting needs a US Twilio number with SMS turned on. Our team helps beta users set this up.
  • A Google account, so Dots can use Calendar, Gmail and Docs.

Set up Dots

Open Cypher Dots in the sidebar (under Assist). The page shows a Private beta badge and a Set up Dots card with four steps. "Dots texts you when it's ready."

  1. Your Dots agent: choose the deployed agent that will power Dots.
  2. Dots' phone number: pick the number Dots texts and answers calls on. Numbers that cannot send SMS show a No SMS badge.
  3. Google: select Connect Google and allow Calendar, Send email, Read email and Docs. If some are missing, select Allow the rest. If Google stopped accepting access, select Reconnect Google.
  4. Your mobile number: enter your own mobile number and select Text me. Dots texts you an intro. Reply to that text to start giving it tasks. If nothing arrives, select Send again.

What you can ask Dots to do

Text Dots in plain language, the same way you would message a colleague. It can:

  • Check your Google Calendar and book a meeting.
  • Send an email from your Gmail, or look for an email you are waiting for.
  • Call someone for you about a specific question and report back.
  • Answer calls to its number, take a message and text you what happened.
  • Save notes to Google Docs.
  • Search the web for quick answers, when Google search is set up (shown as Ready next to Google search).

After each call on the Dots number, Dots texts you a summary and emails it to you.

Preferences

  1. On the Cypher Dots page, find Save every call summary to Google Docs.
  2. Turn the switch on. Each call is added to your "Cypher Dots" doc, newest first.
  3. Select Open the Cypher Dots doc to read it in Google Docs.

This switch needs Google Docs connected first.

Tips for texting Dots

  • Give names, dates and times in one message: "Call Emily Carter at 555-0142 and ask if Friday 10am still works."
  • Say what you want back: "Text me her answer" or "Save it to my notes doc."
  • For email, name the sender or subject so Dots can find the right message.

Chat with Dots in the dashboard

The Chat with Dots panel is the same assistant as your texts, inside the dashboard. Type in Message Dots… and select Send. If setup is not finished you will see "Finish setup to chat with Dots here." Only the owner's number can give Dots instructions by text; anyone else who calls or texts its number is treated as a caller.
